An Open House for public input and discussion is scheduled for April 27th, 2017 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM at Lynnwood City Hall (19100 44th Ave W Lynnwood WA 98036).
The purpose of this note is to provide you with information about a decision to explore options that will mitigate predictable collisions involving southbound and northbound left turning motorists from Highway 99 onto 202nd St SW in Lynnwood. You are receiving this note because mitigation to prevent future collisions is likely to change motor-vehicle access to and from your property or business via Highway 99.
A recent analysis of collision history data from the non-signalized intersection of 202nd Street SW and Highway 99 concludes with statistical confidence that future collisions will occur. This analysis result does not guarantee collisions but justifies mitigation focused on common elements of past collisions to help prevent future collisions.
Common elements of past collisions are left turns from and to Highway 99 from and to 202nd St SW. Mitigation options include short term and long term treatments. An example of short term treatment is a change to channelization (raised yellow curbing) prohibiting left turns from and to Highway 99 at 202nd Street. An example of long term treatment is a full traffic signal to alternate right-of-way for vehicle and pedestrian movements within the shared space.
Prior to the Open House, you may contact Assistant Traffic Engineer Maisha Mahmud at 425-670-5223 with questions or comments.
