Shirley Sutton - Council Position #4

Elected to the City Council in 2015, I just completed my second year of service.

During 2017, I was appointed by the Council President to serve as liaison to several agencies like the Alliance for Housing Affordability.  Working with other county representatives provided me with a broader view at the Snohomish County level.  It also afforded meeting and hearing from other city leadership concerns around transportation, population growth, and homeless population and increased housing shortage.

Another position I served on was the Snohomish County Tomorrow where speakers would share visions on what our county challenges and opportunities would be several years from now and the affect it would have on our communities.

I was appointed liaison to the newly formed Human Services Commission and was very pleased to support their efforts as they began to discharge their responsibilities in developing “an assessment” of what services were needed.

Being liaison to the Arts Commission was a growth experience and ignited my creativity.  I learned so much on this appointment and enjoyed the commissioners who were dedicated and passionate about their art.

I continue to place our community needs first in every issue that comes before the council.  Your welfare is always my first thought on how my decision affects us all.

I attended and spoke at several events like ribbon cuttings, student leaderships trainings and continue to work and mentor youth, men and women to assist them in achieving their true potential. It has been a pleasure to serve the residents of the City of Lynnwood community in a more visual leadership role during my second year in office.

I enjoy meeting and corresponding with members of the community in person, via email or telephone.  My interest is to continue to support the quality of life that our citizens deserve and expect.
