Lynnwood Honors Excellence With New Awards

The City of Lynnwood is pleased to announce the launch of a new award called "Honoring Excellence...and a great deal more." There are three categories of the Excellence Award: City Employee, Citizen, and Business. The City of Lynnwood will be recognizing a city employee that demonstrates excellence in his or her work, a citizen who actively participates in our community and volunteers his or her time, and a corporate citizen or business that actively participates in the community. At Monday night's City Council Business Meeting, Mayor Nicola Smith, Council President Loren Simmonds, Council Vice President Sid Roberts and the Lynnwood City Council presented the Excellence Awards to the 2014 recipients. 

Employee Award:
Susan Burns, 
City Hall Receptionist, was presented the City Employee Award. Susan demonstrates excellence and integrity in her work, always remaining respectful in addressing customer needs; she is inspiring and encouraging of others; she enhances the image and well-being of the City of Lynnwood by being a polished professional who relates to all people in an open, friendly and courteous manner; and she contributes by consistently going above and beyond to meet the needs of our customers and staff.

Citizen Award:
Ed dos Remedios 
was presented the Citizen Award. Ed demonstrates excellence through his volunteer commitments with the Civil Service Commission and as a Volunteer in Public Safety (VIPS); Ed is also a long-time resident of the City of Lynnwood, active member of St. Thomas More Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, the VFW Local 1984, a past member of the Diversity Task Force and a former City Council Member; and he is described by many as a man of integrity, a family man, someone with great values who has an established track record for stepping up to meet the needs of his many friends and the community. 

Ed dos Remedios

Business Award:
Acura of Lynnwood 
was presented the Business Award. Acura of Lynnwood has been an active member of the Lynnwood Business community for 27 years, they have supported the Lynnwood community through generous event sponsorship; they demonstrate their commitment to the betterment of the City of Lynnwood with a generous donation of a vehicle for the past six years to the Lynnwood Police Department in support of domestic violence prevention; they are a major employer in the City of Lynnwood and they provide their employees with a positive working environment which is evidenced through the longevity of many of their employees, and they encourage excellence in their staff through training programs and promotions.

The City of Lynnwood wishes to extend our sincere appreciation to the 2014 Excellence Award winners. Next time you visit City Hall, be sure to take a look at the Honoring Excellence plaque commemorating these award winners. Next spring, the city will begin accepting nominations for the 2015 Excellence Awards.
