Lynnwood Participates in the Point In Time Count

Thursday, January 23, 2014, dozens of volunteers met at Good Shepherd Baptist Church in Lynnwood to participate in the annual Point In Time (PIT) Count. The PIT is conducted in every county across the nation and consists of volunteers working together to identify how many homeless are in our community. The PIT Count allows Federal and State funding to come into our community to help end homelessness.

Volunteers hit the streets yesterday to survey homeless individuals and to hand out personal hygiene and comfort items such as sleeping bags and backpacks. In addition to the street survey teams, five locations throughout the County opened their doors to homeless individuals to be counted, receive application assistance for social services, and a warm meal. Good Shepherd Baptist Church in Lynnwood was one of those locations.

Lynnwood's Fire Chief Tod Gates and other city officials encourage the City's involvement in the Point In Time Count and appreciate its importance in appropriating funding to provide more services and housing opportunities for our under-served and vulnerable populations.

Once all of the survey data throughout the county is compiled, Snohomish County will be releasing the 2014 Point In Time Count Report.
