About Ian Cotton

Ian Cotton was elected to Lynnwood City Council, Position 2 in the fall of 2013. Ian Cotton is a practical and analytical thinker who enjoys working as part of a team to reach solutions to complex problems for the benefit of all stakeholders involved. Ian brings a focused and thoughtful approach to local government and is excited to serve the Residents of Lynnwood.

He was elected by his fellow Council Members to serve on the SnoCom Board in 2013 and continues to serve on this board. He also worked as part of the Regional Fire Authority exploration committee. Ian serves on the following boards as part of his additional roles in serving the community; appointed as one of the three Council Members serving on the Audit & Insurance/Finance Committee, appointed as one of the two Council Members serving on the Disability Board and is the Council Liaison to the Lynnwood VIPS Volunteers.  Ian was elected by his fellow Council Members to serve as Transportation Benefit District (TBD) Board President.

Ian Cotton is a born and raised native to Lynnwood and the Pacific Northwest. Ian grew up in Lynnwood and has lived here for over 30 years. After earning his rank of Eagle Scout through the Boy Scouts of America and graduating from Meadowdale High School, Ian went to work for a local heavy equipment manufacturer where he built custom manufacturing equipment, implemented LEAN Manufacturing principals and performed process engineering. While working nights, he completed his BSEE from the University of Washington and is now a licensed Professional Engineer through the State of Washington. Since then Ian has also obtained his LEED AP certification and looks forward to continuing his education as needed to better serve the Residents of Lynnwood. In 2016 Ian was named by ENR as one of the top 6 young professionals in the Pacific Northwest.

Ian lives with his wife, Angel, whom he married in 2003, their young daughter, and black lab. Ian and his family enjoy all the great activities and events City of Lynnwood has to offer.

Ian enjoys serving the Residents of Lynnwood and helping to bring Lynnwood into its bright new future.
