Scriber Creek Trail Improvements

This project will make critically needed upgrades to a shared-use path that will provide a crucial multi-modal connection between Lynnwood’s Puget Sound Regional Council designated Regional Growth Center & City Center Sub-Area, the Interurban Regional Trail, the Lynnwood Transit Center, and the future Lynnwood Link light rail station (2023) and SWIFT bus-rapid transit routes on 196th St SW (SR 524).

The existing 1.5 mile trail starts at Wilcox Park and ends at the Lynnwood Transit Center. The trail is often flooded and impassible. The trail is narrow (4-8’) with both hard and soft surfaces (wood chips) which make it impassable to cyclist.

The trail has damage caused by:

  • Storm-water flooding
  • Soil settlement
  • Tree root heaving
  • Water shed fluctuation

It is near an automobile oriented area that is highly developed. This area experiences high traffic congestion, volumes and collisions. Many commuting through this area see this as a barrier. Often choosing not to walk or cycle to their destinations.

Phase I of the project will connect:

  • Transit modes and corridors
  • Depressed housing and employment centers
  • Regional servicing trail systems through enhanced pedestrian and bicycle mobility.

This is the first phase of a larger project. The full project will extend Scriber Creek Trail from Wilcox Park to Lund’s Gulch and Meadowdale Beach Park.

The scope of this project is to complete approximately 4,000 feet of shared use trail. The trail will generally be 10-12 ft wide with 2 ft shoulders. It will be constructed of hard pervious surface. In a few isolated wetland and stream areas, the trail will be an elevated boardwalk with a durable, slip resistant surface. The elevated boardwalk will be 10 feet wide with 2 foot buffers from the railings on either side.

The City has been evaluating opportunities to improve Scriber Creek Trail. Many factors have been considered including:

  • Trail use experience and impacts
  • Cost
  • Public input

The City is moving forward with design of improvements to the existing trail. Replacement of existing sidewalk with trail along 200th St SW. Improvements to the existing trail through Scriber Creek Park.
