GOLD STAR FAMILIES MEMORIAL MONUMENT

The City of Lynnwood is pleased to announce that our city has been selected to be the future home a new Gold Star Families Memorial Monument, which serves to honor the families of servicemen and women who sacrificed their lives while serving in the US military.

Mayor Nicola Smith was thrilled to announce the Gold Star Families Memorial Monument decision on Sunday, November 10, 2019 to a room full of veterans and their families during the Veterans Appreciation Dinner, sponsored by the Lynnwood Convention Center. "We are grateful and honored to have been selected as the future home of the Gold Star Families Memorial Monument", stated Mayor Nicola Smith. "The City Council and I remain committed to ensuring Lynnwood is a veteran-supportive and welcoming community while honoring the great service and sacrifice of our nation's heroes and the families that support them."

The project to bring Gold Star Families Memorial Monuments to all 50 states was started in 2010 by Hershel “Woody” Williams, a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient from WWII. The Hershel Woody Williams Medal of Honor Foundation is dedicated to honoring and paying tribute to families who have sacrificed a loved one in service of their country. The project is also supported by the Washington State Gold Star Mothers.

A Gold Star Family Monument - Lynnwood, WA Facebook has been established where you can track the progress and learn about ways to support this effort. To make a donation visit Washington Gold Star Mothers.
