Poplar Way Extension Bridge

This project is for the construction of an arterial bridge to connect Poplar Way/196th ST SW and 33rd Ave West. The City Center Access Study identified this bridge as an alternative to the 196th Street SW crossing at I-5. It is the most significant solution for congestion relief in the City Center along 196th ST SW and around Alderwood Mall.

This project is the second highest priority project identified by the City Center Access Study. The project design phase has received $3,209,000 in Federal and State grants for the design of this project. The project has also received $3,050,000 in federal grants for the ROW phase. The construction phase has recently received $40 Million in federal and state grant funding.

Currently the project is in the second phase of design. The City anticipates completing the design phase in 2023. The right-of-way phase is planned to finish by the end of the first quarter of 2024.
