36th Ave W Project


The City of Lynnwood is constructing a one mile long corridor improvement project on 36th Avenue West from Maple Road/179th St SW to 165th Pl SW.

Planned improvements include:

  • Additional road lanes in isolated locations
  • Continuous sidewalks
  • Landscape features
  • Bicycle facilities
  • A new traffic signal is planned for the 36th/Maple Rd/179th Intersection
  • A new roundabout is planned for the 36th/172nd Intersection

The City has received federal grants of approximately $4,650,000 to complete design and right-of-way acquisition and a $4,000,000 state grant from Transportation Improvement Board to complete construction. The City has also committed over $6,600,000 of local funds to this project.

Construction information: 

  • The project is expected to be completed in the Spring of 2020.
  • Working Hours: The construction contractor will be allowed to work any consecutive 9-hour period between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
  • Detour Routes: During working hours, there will be times when detour routes will be in effect and 36th Ave W will be maintained for Local and Emergency Vehicle Access Only. Detour signs will be posted to use other streets as alternate routes. Most current detour routes will be posted when available.
  • Maple Road: During the project, a short section of Maple Road east of 37th Place W will be closed for a period of time to traffic to complete improvements.
