Jury

Jury trials are necessary to the open administration of justice in the state of Washington. It is now critical that we re-start jury trials, which are key to the fair administration of justice. We hope you will be willing to answer the call to serve.  Diverse juries are a critical component of justice.  We want to assure you that every reasonable precaution will be taken to enhance the health and safety of all jurors, attorneys and Court staff during jury selection and the jury trial to follow.

Recent Increase in Jury Scams Reported in Washington

Washington courts and justice system members are reporting a recent and significant increase in jury scam calls, emails and mailings targeting state residents. Scammers can be very convincing, repeating your name, address, Social Security numbers and other information that makes them seem legitimate. Please tell your family, friends, colleagues, and neighbors that courts, law enforcement and government agencies do not initiate calls about missing jury service and warrants, and will never ask for payment or financial information over the phone.

Most jury trials last no longer than 1 day but please take note that you may be here after business hours depending on the trial. Please bring reading material with you as there may be long waiting periods throughout the day.

Typically, jurors are excused for lunch on their own at noon.  You may want to bring a sack lunch and eat in the jury room or at the park across the street or have lunch in one of the many restaurants in Lynnwood.

Often jury trials cancel at the last minute. Lynnwood Municipal Court has a recorded message, both on our website and via telephone that updates the status of jury duty so that you will not unnecessarily appear. Be sure to call the recorded message (425-670-5529) or visit our website the night before to verify that you are still needed.

If it is impossible for you to serve, please set forth in full details all of your reasons. If your reasons are not legally adequate, you may still be required to serve. Please send your request for excusal to the Jury Coordinator at Jury@LynnwoodWA.gov.
