Volunteering with the Lynnwood Police Department

Our Public Safety Volunteers are highly engaged, dedicated, and well-trained community members who play a pivotal role in providing essential services to the Lynnwood Police Department. Our volunteers are trained to work alongside police officers and staff during emergencies. They serve as extra eyes and ears in the community to help keep our city safe and enhance the quality of life for our diverse community.

Essential Activities and Duties may include:

  • Participating in our Vacation House Check Program
  • Assist with locked car doors and battery jump-starts
  • Promoting crime prevention by increasing police department presence in neighborhoods
  • Representing the LPD at various community events and gatherings
  • Providing traffic guidance during major incidents
  • Assisting with volunteer program administrative tasks

Step 1.Review Minimum Requirements

  • 18 years or older
  • Able to contribute minimum of 10 hours per month between patrol shifts and one monthly meeting
  • Able to pass our background check
  • Able to lift up to 10 lbs 

Step 2.Complete and Submit Application

Step 3.Schedule a Ride Along

We will contact you to schedule a ride along with an existing volunteer shift. Upon completion of the ride along, we will provide you with a take home Personal History Packet

Step 4.In Person Interview

Once you have completed your ride along shift, we will contact you shortly to schedule a brief interview with our volunteer and staff.

Step 5.Background Check

Upon completion of an interview, ride along and personal history packet, we will begin our background check process, e.g. fingerprints, criminal and driving record check, etc.

Step 6.Acceptance Confirmation

Once our staff has reviewed your complete application and personal history packet,  we will contact you within two weeks with our decision.
