The World's Game is Coming - Get Ready, Lynnwood!

Are you ready to celebrate the biggest sporting event in the world? FIFA World Cup™ is coming to the Seattle region this summer, and this exciting event may bring increased traffic and congestion to Lynnwood. With more than 500,000 visitors expected across the region during match days, Lynnwood will play a key role as the northern terminus of Sound Transit’s Link light rail. We have put together some helpful tips and information that can make traveling to the games or throughout Lynnwood go a little smoother.

1. Plan Ahead – Know the Schedule & Allow Extra Time

There will be six matches taking place in Seattle over the course of four weeks. Whether you are planning your travel to the game or hoping to avoid congested times, it is important to know when the matches will be held.

Match Schedule
  • Monday, June 15, 2026 at noon: Belgium vs Egypt
  • Friday, June 19, 2026 at noon: USA vs Australia - Juneteenth Match
  • Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at noon: Bosnia-Herzegovina vs Qatar
  • Friday, June 26, 2026 at 8:00 p.m.: Egypt vs Iran - Pride Match
  • Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at 1:00 p.m.: Round of 32
  • Monday, July 6, 2026 a5 5:00 p.m.: Round of 16

Many of the match times are scheduled for mid-day and could affect rush hour traffic times. On match days it is important to check travel times and plan to give yourself more time in your travel. It is always a good idea to buffer additional time whether you are planning to drive or take transit to your destination.

Additionally, seven matches will be held in Vancouver, BC from June 13 to July 7. The local organizing committee expects fans will travel frequently between Vancouver and Seattle. During this time, there may be increased traffic along I-5. Give yourself extra time and use WSDOT’s real-time travel data to plan your trip.

2. Consider Other Travel Options

During large sporting events, Lynnwood typically experiences increased traffic within City Center and near the light rail station. The Lynnwood City Center Station parking garage fills up early and often, even on non-sporting event days. If you are planning to travel to the light rail station for matches, work, or other needs, it is always great idea to consider other travel options.

Take the Bus

Community Transit provides frequent bus services throughout Lynnwood. Consider hopping on the bus from your home or drive to a nearby Park and Ride. Community Transit has two park and ride stations that connect to the Lynnwood City Center Station via the Orange Line. The Ash Way Park-and-Ride offers 1,005 parking spaces and the Swamp Creek Park-and-Ride has 405 parking stalls. Both of these locations are stops on the Swift Orange line which connects to the light rail station in approximately fifteen minutes or less.

Ride a Bike

If you are capable, grab a helmet and take a bike to transit. The Lynnwood City Center station and park and ride locations all have bike racks and secured bike storage options. View the BikeLink map and see real-time availability of bike parking locations. Bikes and scooters are not allowed onboard Link Light rail on match days.

3. Know Where You Can Park

If you have to drive to the Lynnwood City Center Station, you should plan to arrive early on weekdays. The parking garage will be full before 9 a.m., especially on match days. If you are able to carpool to the garage, Sound Transit now offers free carpool parking permits. These permits will guarantee you a parking space until 10 a.m. on weekdays. Reserve parking with Sound Transit here.

Some parking lots near the light rail station may charge hourly for parking. This is allowed in Lynnwood and was recently approved by City Council. If you are unable to find a spot in the garage, be sure to park in only approved areas. Be mindful of all parking signs and do not park in no parking areas or tow away areas. You cannot park on private lots without approval from the property manager or if you paid for a spot.

The Ash Way Park-and-Ride and Swamp Creek Park-and-Ride offer many parking spaces and is an easy way to connect to light rail.
