The City of Lynnwood is committed to conducting its business in a fair, open, efficient and accountable manner. Public officials and city employees have an obligation to conduct their public and private actions and financial dealings in a manner that presents no apparent or actual conflict of interest between the public trust and their private interest per the City's Code of Ethics.

The City of Lynnwood is currently seeking individuals interested in serving on the Ethics Board. The Ethics Board is an advisory body comprised of at least 3 members and two alternates tasked with the following:

  • Hear complaints and determine if violations of the Ethics Code have occurred by the mayor, a council member, a member of a board or commission;
  • Adopt policies, procedures and rules, and issue advisory written opinions regarding the Ethics Code;
  • Appoint a qualified individual or firm as “board counsel” to provide the board with independent legal counsel, and be responsible to conduct investigations on complaints;
  • Annually review: its budget; all service contracts to ensure ready availability of board counsel, third party investigators, and other staff, and to meet with contractors; activities for the proper training of such staff about this ethics code and the board’s policies, rules and procedures for the administration thereof.

Board members may not be City of Lynnwood Employees or Lynnwood City Council Members. Board members do not have to reside in Lynnwood. Ideal candidates will have a legal background or come from a civic organization, or other organizations dedicated to the administration of good government. Board members should have sound investigatory background, and an ability to interpret and opine on the Ethics rules.

Interested individuals will need to complete an application form by November 30th. Interviews will begin in mid-December with appointments anticipated in January of 2020.
