Lynnwood Honors Excellence

LYNNWOOD, WA (November 14, 2019) - On Tuesday, November 12, Mayor Smith and the Lynnwood City Council presented Excellence Awards to the 2019 recipients. The Honoring Excellence...and a great deal more awards were created as a way for the City to recognize a City Employee, a Citizen and a Business that demonstrates excellence, actively contributes to the community, and generally makes Lynnwood...a great deal more! 


Dale

Employee Award: Dale Schlack (pictured with Mayor Nicola Smith and his family) is the Lynnwood Police Department Chaplain.   

Dale Schlack has been the Lynnwood Police Department’s Chaplain for over 17 years, serving local community members and Police Department employees during their time of need. Chaplain Dale always brings a caring, uplifting and humble presence as he supports grieving family members through traumatic life events, responding alongside our police officers, firefighters, and paramedics. Chaplain Dale also supports members of the Lynnwood Police Department who are responding to significant and oftentimes distressing situations, ensuring that our first responders are on solid emotional ground and providing his guidance and listening ear when needed. Chaplain Dale is well known and well respected throughout our local faith communities and law enforcement communities, and he participates in Lynnwood’s Cops & Clergy Program helping to build connections between faith leaders and the Lynnwood Police Department.


Loren

Citizen Award: Loren Simmonds (pictured here with Council Vice President Christine Frizzell and his family) is a Lynnwood resident and former Council Member, and is currently a member of the City's Civil Service Commission and the Parks & Recreation Foundation.

Loren Simmonds has a passion for serving the Lynnwood community and he cares deeply about City government and the community members we serve. Loren Simmonds served on the Lynnwood City Council for sixteen years, eight of which he was elected to serve as the President of the City Council. During Loren’s tenure on the City Council he had countless accomplishments and left a lasting legacy. Currently Loren Simmonds serves on the City’s Civil Service Commission, the Parks & Recreation Foundation Board, the Snohomish County Planning Commission, and he has recently been appointed to the Public Facilities District Board. In addition to his current volunteer roles, Loren continues to be active in the community as a contributing writer for Lynnwood Today, a frequent attendee of City Council Meetings and City Events, and supporter of local non-profit organizations.


Mr. Kleen

Business Award: Mr. Kleen 76 Station (President and General Manager Dan Kestle, along with his staff members, pictured here with Council President Benjamin Goodwin) is a local business.

Mr. Kleen 76 Station has been serving our local Lynnwood community for over 50 years with fast, friendly, first class service. Mr. Kleen 76 Station is a proud and active member in the Lynnwood, Snohomish County and wider Puget Sound community, regularly attending local community events. Mr. Kleen 76 Station hosts their own events for community members such as numerous holiday events and customer appreciation days. Mr. Kleen 76 Station is a proud and active member of the Lynnwood Chamber and the Economic Alliance of Snohomish County.


The City of Lynnwood wishes to extend our sincere appreciation to the 2019 Excellence Award winners! Next spring, the City will begin accepting nominations for the 2020 awards.
