This Living Voices presentation features the story of the Native American boarding schools and the Code Talkers through the eyes of a Navajo woman during WW II. Actor Lori Tapahonso will perform live along with archival media the story of Alice, A Navajo Code Talker during World War II. Both navigate the pressures of assimilation and patriotism, working to protect their culture in a world that demands they leave it behind. Developed with Chinle Unified School District and Navajo Nation community advisors, Native Vision explores Native resilience, identity and service.
Lori Tapahonso, a citizen of the Navajo Nation and raised Acoma Pueblo, is a multifaceted artist, communications and creative consultant, educator, storyteller, jeweler, and a film and television producer.
This is a free presentation hosted by the Lynnwood-Alderwood Manor Heritage Association and is open to the public. The Wickers Gallery is ADA accessible.
