Thank you to all who attended the Open House to discuss traffic improvement alternatives. Please check back for further updates or other involvement opportunities.
The City is working on solutions to improve traffic around the Costco, north of the mall. The closeproximity of the traffic signal at 30th Pl W and 33rd Ave W and the traffic signal at AlderwoodMall Pkwy and 33rd Ave W/Maple Rd cause operational issues during high traffic periods. Multiplesolutions have been identified which could be phased in over multiple years.
Alternative 1: 30th Pl W - Right turn In & Right Turn out and Roundabout at 33rd Ave W and North (Costco) Driveway. Alternative 1 includes removing the traffic signal at 30th Pl W and 33rd Ave W, reconfiguring the 30th Place W approach to 33rd Ave W to Right Turn In & Right Turn Out movements only, and constructing a Roundabout at the north entrance to Costco off 33rd Ave W to improve site access and support U-turns on 33rd Ave W.
Alternative 2: Restrict Eastbound Left-Turns to 30th Pl W. At 33rd Ave W and 30th Pl W the eastbound left-turn restriction includes westbound left-turns removed under the assumption that these drivers will use other local roadways, such as 184th St SW and 38th Ave W, to access the residential neighborhood north and west of 33rd Ave W. Figure 5 shows the conceptual eastbound left-turn restriction on 33rd Ave W at 30th Place W. The eastbound left turn lane would be modified as a through lane to align with the right-most left turn lane at AMP.
Alternative 3: Second Eastbound Through Lane at 30th Place W. Alternative 3 includes widening 33rd Ave W to extend the eastbound curb-lane west of 30th Pl W to add capacity to 33rd Ave W and maintain the existing traffic controls.
