Josh Binda is a first-generation African American who was born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island. His family is originally from the West African country Liberia which they escaped a civil war as refugees after winning an international lottery that brought them to the United States. Josh later moved to Lynnwood in 2012 and has been a resident ever since.  As a newly elected Council Member in 2022, at age 21 Josh became the youngest African American ever elected in Washington state history and one of the youngest politicians in the nation currently.

Josh is also a renowned public and motivational speaker who has spoken to students at elementary, middle schools, high schools , and colleges to inspire the next generation of leaders. He’s launched his “Love Conquers All Tour” during which he spoke to over 20,000 students across the state about the importance of leading with love and chasing their dreams. He was also chosen as one of the 425 Business magazines 30 under 30 brightest youngest professionals of 2022.

Josh is a known activist for racial and social justice and has a passion for the city of Lynnwood and has extensive community involvement. He was the Chair of the Diversity Equity and Inclusion Commission for the city of Lynnwood, has volunteered at the Lynnwood food bank, and continues to find ways to bring representation from all perspectives of the community to the city.

Binda graduated from Kamiak High school and attended Sno-Isle tech where he got his aerospace engineering certification. He was the student body president both years he was there. Josh currently is attending the university of Washington where he is majoring in Business Management and minoring in Political Science. He has work experience as an integration engineer for Jeff Bezos rocket company called Blue Origin and as a Real Estate agent for John L Scott. He is excited to be a part of the council and represent all residents in Lynnwood.
