The Lynnwood Police Department Citizens Patrol is a group of dedicated and passionate individuals who serve as community ambassadors for the Lynnwood Police Department. Additionally, our Citizens Patrol unit plays a pivotal role in providing essential services to enhance the quality of life for our diverse Lynnwood communities. 

Essential duties:

  • Provide traffic control during major incidents
  • Issue disabled parking violation infractions
  • Open locked car doors and jump-starts
  • Represent Lynnwood Police Department at community and city events
  • And many more exciting projects as assigned

Step 1.Review Minimum Requirements

  • 18 years or older
  • Able to contribute minimum of 10 hours per month between patrol shifts and one monthly meeting
  • Able to pass our background check
  • Able to lift up to 10 lbs

Step 3.Schedule a Ride Along

We will contact you to schedule a ride along with an existing volunteer shift. Upon completion of the ride along, we will provide you with a take home Personal History Packet

Step 4.In Person Interview

Once you have completed your ride along shift, we will contact you shortly to schedule a brief interview with our volunteer and staff.

Step 5.Background Check

Upon completion of an interview, ride along and personal history packet, we will begin our background check process, e.g. fingerprints, criminal and driving record check, etc.

Step 6.Acceptance Confirmation

Once our staff has reviewed your complete application and personal history packet,  we will contact you within two weeks with our decision.

Once our staff reviewed your complete application and personal history packet,  we will contact you within two weeks with our decision.

Upon acceptance, you will be enrolled in a unique five-week training course provided by Lynnwood Police Officers and experienced Citizens Patrol members. Throughout the training academy, you will learn necessary skill sets to become proficient in performing all Citizens Patrol related tasks in a safe and professional manner. Training topics includes: Traffic Control, Emergency Vehicle Operations, radar gun operation, police radio, common police programs, city geography and how to issue a disabled parking violation infraction.
