The City of Lynnwood has identified increasing traffic congestion in the area around 33rd Ave W / 30th Pl W and Alderwood Mall Parkway. Contributing to the congestion are closely spaced traffic signals and nearby business growth.

Preliminary solutions have been developed. The City conducted public outreach in September 2023 to gather community input. With the feedback and the need for improvements, design for 33rd Ave W Ring Road Project is advancing. Information regarding these preliminary solutions are available here Intersection Improvement - Costco, 33rd Ave W & 30th Pl W

The study area includes, but is not limited to:

  • 33rd Ave W
  • Maple Road
  • Beech Road
  • SR 525
  • Alderwood Mall Parkway
  • 30th Place W
  • 182nd St SW
  • 184th St SW

The project will be completed in phases, beginning with current Phase 1. Phase 1 will conduct an area-wide transportation study. Traffic modeling and evaluation of improvement options will be completed. This phase will identify both short-term (1–2 years) and long-term solutions. The intention is to improve traffic flow and mobility in this area.

The City will share results of the study with the public and present recommendations to City Council. Short-term improvement design and construction will be based on feedback and available funding. The study will also identify implementation strategies and funding needs for future longer-term phases.
