Meadowdale Playfields Lighting Replacement
The City of Lynnwood is seeking grant funding to renovate the five athletic fields at Meadowdale Playfields. We propose to replace field lighting and add new dugout covers for two multi-use turf fields and three softball fields. The existing lighting is nearly 40 years old and has reached the end of its useful life. None of the five fields currently have dugout covers. The overall goal is to extend youth play by lengthening the amount of time sports participants can use the fields with consistent lighting and accessible dugouts. The project will support youth soccer, football, rugby, lacrosse, baseball, and softball.
The City of Lynnwood, City of Edmonds, Edmonds School District, and Snohomish County jointly developed the Playfields from 1985 to 1990. Meadowdale Playfields hosts youth, adult, senior leagues and tournaments for the region. In 2017, the City of Lynnwood upgraded field surfaces to all weather turf, installed new fencing, and added bleachers.
The park contains two artificial turf, multi-use fields striped for soccer, lacrosse, baseball, and fast pitch and three baseball/fast pitch/softball fields with turf infields and natural grass outfields. These fields also regularly accommodate rugby, football, and cricket practices and games. Our primary goal is to meet increased demand for field use and extend availability by updating the outdated field lights and installing dugout covers on all five fields.
If funding is secured, construction will occur in 2025 and is anticipated to take approximately one month.
